Betraying Jesus

  1. Mt. 26:21-23 – READ

JUDAS ISCARIOT WAS THE ONE WHO BETRAYED THE LORD AND HE BETRAYED JESUS IN AT LEAST THREE WAYS WHICH ALL INVOLVE THE LETTER “A”:  “APPEARANCE, ACTIONS, AND APPETITE.

a)      Judas appeared to be righteous – he even said to Jesus:  “Is it I?” – verse 25 – READ

2)      Mt. 26:47, 49.

3)      Verse 49 – READ

4)      Up to this time Judas had given the appearance he was righteous, but here we see the real truth about him.

5)      This man was a traitor; he sold out his Lord for some money.

6)      Some think Judas was never really saved; some claim he was just a pretender the whole time.

7)      Acts 1:17 says Judas was “numbered with” the apostles; he had received a “portion” of the ministry.

8)      Judas was a child of God, but a time came when he decided to just appear to continue in this role.

a)      This same thing can happen today.

b)      A time comes when a person only “appears” to be living the Christian life.

9)      Perhaps this is why the Bible repeatedly warns against having a fake faith.

a)      Rom. 13:14 says “put on the Lord Jesus Christ.”

b)      Do not put on a false show; do not put on an air of religiosity.

c)      1 Pet. 5:5 uses the words “gird yourselves.”

d)     People clothe themselves with the truth faith or with just an appearance of Christians.

10)  If we and others try to fake it, our hypocrisy will one day be exposed.

11)  Eph. 4:23-24 is another verse that deals with this topic from a slightly different vantage point.

Although the sphincter order cheap viagra of Oddi was found by Dr. The inability to attain an erection even levitra 10 mg after proper sexual stimulation. Some of buy cheap cialis the many health benefits that come with a Hong Kong massage include stress relief, an increase in the level of relaxation, improved circulation, improvement in your posture and flexibility. Moreover, the medication is available in a variety of delicious flavours such as banana, mint, viagra properien pineapple, strawberry, and others.

WHEN PEOPLE HAVE A FAITH THAT IS IN “APPEARANCE ONLY,” THEY ARE VERY SIMILAR TO JUDAS.

1)      Judas not only betrayed Jesus in how he appeared, he betrayed Jesus by His actions.

2)      Mt. 26:14-16 – READ

a)      Verse 14 says “Judas WENT to the chief priests.”

b)      Verse 14 leaves no question about this man’s guilt.

c)      Verse 15 is even more calloused – “what will you give me.”

3)      In many cases a person’s actions eventually reveals who and what they are.

a)      Today we can “sell out” the Lord by behaving contrary to His will.

b)      Sometimes we can sell out Jesus just once in a while.  Others betray Him and do not look back.

4)      Mt. 26:69, 71, 73-75.

USUALLY PEOPLE PUT ON A FAKE APPEARANCE OR SHOW AN OUTRIGHT DENIAL OF JESUS BY THEIR ACTIONS BECAUSE THEY HAVE AN APPETITE FOR SIN.

a)      In the case of Judas, we know this man had an appetite for money.

b)      In Jn. 12:6 we find a detail about this man that is shocking the first time we encounter it.

2)      Man’s appetite for things God says “no” to is found throughout the Bible.

3)      In Gal. 5:17 Paul spoke about a struggle between the “flesh and spirit.”

4)      Mt. 26:41.

5)      As human beings we are always tempted to focus on what is material instead of the physical.

6)      When people get off the right track, they can once more be like Judas.
