The Global Warming Treaty

Back in 1997, several nations around the world assembled together in Kyoto Japan to address climate change. They signed a climate change treaty the Kyoto Protocol. What has resulted from sixteen years of climate change legislation?

The Netherlands planned to cut their carbon emissions by 6% by the end of 2012. Instead, the emissions increased by 20%. Japan also intended to cut emissions by 6% but saw a 7% increase instead. Canada gave up on its efforts shortly after signing the treaty. Their emissions actually went up 17%!

The United States did not sign the treaty – our emissions have gone up 10% in that time period. Worldwide, carbon emissions have gone up 58% since 1990. It doesn’t look like man is going to affect global warming!

If global warming is caused by mankind at all… I’m quite skeptical about such claims.

God has a purpose for this world – to prepare man to live in heaven. He does so by teaching man to love God supremely and his fellowman sacrificially.

When God gets finished with this world, He’ll destroy it Himself. God rained down fire and brimstone on Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19). God sent fire from heaven which devoured Nadab and Abihu (Leviticus 10). He sent fire from heaven on the altar built by Elijah (1 Kings 18). The Lord sent down fire from heaven to consume the soldiers of King Nadab (2 Kings 1). God burnt with fire from heaven sacrifices offered by David (1 Chronicles 21) and by Solomon (2 Chronicles 7).

When God decides the time is right, God will send down fire on the earth (2 Peter 3:10-12). The earth will not be destroyed until then, until it fulfills its purpose. Once it has, no climate-control treaty will stop it.
