Mammoths, the Ice Age, and Noah’s Flood, Part 1
Last November (2014), a building contractor named Daniel LaPoint, Jr. was working at the home of Eric Witzke in Bellevue, Michigan. LaPoint noticed a huge rib sticking out of the ground. For four days, the two men dug and dug and dug and pulled out of the ground 42 bones in all. At first, they thought these were dinosaur bones but it turned out to be a 5-ton mammal called a mastodon, a smaller “cousin” of the woolly mammoth. They donated most of the bones to the U of M Museum of Paleontology.
The bones have been dated around 10,000 years ago, about the same time as the first human settlers were here in Michigan, according typical dating schemes. In 2002, the giant mastodon was named Michigan’s official state fossil. (And you thought our politicians wasted their time with foolish laws!)
Mammoths and mastodons are members of the Elephantidae family. Mammoths had large curved tusks and a covering of hair. There are about 12 species of mammoths. The largest reached as tall as 16’ at the shoulder. They could weigh between 6-8 tons, males could weigh as much as 12 tons. In addition to the fury coat, they could have a layer of fat up to 3” thick!
What happened to mammoths? Here is a smattering of suggestions from evolutionists…
1. The earth’s orbital path changed, perhaps caused by a comet passing too close to the earth.
2. Excessive volcanic activity.
3. Meteoric and/or comet impacts that created a “nuclear winter.”
4. Inter-stellar dust clouds.
5. Variations in solar output.
6. Changes in the ocean currents.
In fact, there are more than 60 theories that have been suggested to explain what happened for the ice age to end.
A sublingual pill is one which is directly purchase cheap viagra absorbed into the blood stream. A superfood is defined as any natural food that has an influence in increase of blood flow in the penis buy cialis pharmacy when positioned over it. So, I have tried to clear out some myths about the impotence along with the original facts.Myth: Impotence can not be curedFact: This is the first common myth that has been spread most cheap cialis look at more info widely in spite of their causes. But times have changed and laws are different now, the 16 year old youngsters of Georgia waiting for their chance levitra 20mg canada to get the female libido pill that they’ve been craving. For Bible-believers, we understand that all the animals were on the ark, including dinosaurs, mastodons, and mammoths (Gen. 7:16). We also know that when God brought the flood, the “floodgates of the sky were opened” (Gen. 7:11). Then, when we read Psalm 104:6-8, we see that “mountains rose; valleys sank down.” The earth on which Noah and his family stepped after the flood was drastically different from the earth he last saw a year earlier.
I am not a geologist but I find the subject fascinating. Creation scientists, in attempting to reconcile scientific fact with biblical fact, have proposed an interesting possibility. God bless them for trying to interpret science though the lens of the biblical record. Most of the following comes from Michael Oard. I’ll provide book information at the end of tomorrow’s Daily Droplets.
When the “fountains of the deep” broke open, we have pictured here underwater volcanic activity. This activity heated the oceans so that the moisture would form over the continents. Clouds would have been massive and dumped a lot of water on the land.
The dust from the volcanos would have created blackout conditions, blocking the sun’s rays and reflecting them back out into space. Large “superstorms” may have resulted.
With the light from the sun blocked, the temperatures on the earth would have cooled down considerably, with the oceans cooling as well. Ice – in large sheets – would have formed massive glaciers, especially in the mid to high latitudes. Snow would not have melted very quickly. In fact, as it built up, it would have turned to ice – thick ice so that ice sheets covered much of the world – the so-called “ice age.”
Eventually, after hundreds of years – and the time frame from the flood (Genesis 9) to Abraham (in Genesis 11) might be as much as 400-500 years – the oceans would have cooled and the land temperatures would have warmed back up and the glaciers would have started melting which would have caused local, but perhaps massive, flooding.
These massive glaciers melting would have drained off into the oceans, dropping their temperatures once again, effecting the weather patterns all over the world. Following the end of the ice age, the world would have enjoyed a much milder winter and cooler summers.
So, how did this impact the woolly mammoth? The possible answer awaits tomorrow…
