Look, I don’t believe you change hearts. I believe you change laws, you change allocation of resources, you change the way systems operate

A Difference between the Left & Right

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton had an interview with the infamous “Black Lives Matter” activists not long ago. In that conversation, Clinton made the following statement: “Look, I don’t believe you change hearts. I believe you change laws, you change allocation of resources, you change the way systems operate. You’re not going to change every heart. You’re not. But at the end of the day, we could do a whole lot to change some hearts and change some systems and create more opportunities for people who deserve to have them, to live up to their own God-given potential” (as reported by cnn.com).

Clinton’s first statement is in direct contradiction with the sentiments expressed in that last phrase. “I don’t believe you change hearts” and “God-given” are two contradictory views.

One problem with the (“Leave God out”) left is that they don’t believe you can change hearts. You regulate with laws. Regulate, regulate, regulate. The result of that mentality has been taking God out of the public schools, taking prayer out of the public schools, forcing a separation of church and state that our founders never intended. They want to take religion out of public life and out of public discourse. It seems to me that the left, embodied in President Obama, wants to let us all think how we want and worship the way we want on Sunday but leave Christianity in the church building when we go to work on Monday and the voting booth on Tuesday.

In the vacuum created by this “leave God out” mentality, evolution and atheism grows and flourishes. In the vacuum created by godless religions, anything goes morally speaking. It’s not the presence of guns that have caused all the killing. Men killed each other long before guns were even invented! (See Cain and Abel). It’s not the presence of guns that have caused police officers to be fresh targets.

The moral bankruptcy that allows a man to kill another man is fertilized in a heart with no moral compass.

Presidential candidate Clinton is dreadfully wrong. And her God teaches she is wrong. You can change hearts. You change hearts by teaching the Gospel. You change hearts by teaching that there is a God in heaven who loves us and who demands from us that we respect others’ lives. Yes, we all have “God-given potential” but we are also obligated under “God-given” laws.

If Christianity were still allowed some influence in the public classroom, the Golden Rule would still be emphasized. Perhaps even the second greatest commandment: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

We cannot expect ungodly presidential candidates to change hearts. But you and I can. We have the Gospel. We have the truth. We have the Truth, Jesus Christ. Let us make a renewed effort to share that message with our compatriots.
