Sermon on Psalm 51

Psalm 51  

SLIDE

• The devil likes to see us in the wrong places because he wants us to stumble and fall.
• There may be times in life when we “think about” or even start heading down a certain path like David.
• Just because we think about or even start to walk down such a path does not mean we must complete the journey –
• If we are in the backseat of that car, ask to be taken home.
• The devil wants us to take every possible road to sin, but we have free-will and we need to use it.
• As we think about what caused David to say what he did in Ps. 51, we find a detail about his choice –
• The lady David saw was “very beautiful.”
  If sin was ugly, most would not have much interest in it.
  1. Almost any sin we can name can be “fun” in one way or another.
  2. Gossip can be enjoyable. Lying could be fun.  Theft could be fun.
• Sin may be fun (at least for a time), and 51 warns us of how sin can be a series of steps – SLIDE
  1. David stayed, David looked, and then David “inquired.”
  2. Oftentimes sin for us is also a gradual process.
  3. Suppose David had been challenged by someone at this point concerning his actions?
• David could have said: Just curious!  I saw her and was wondering who she is.
  1. When asked about an illicit relationship, some would say: WE ARE JUST FRIENDS!
  2. I DO THIS IN MODERATION! THIS IS NOT A HABIT OR AN ADDICTION
  3. The path of sin can be a very slippery slope.

SIN CAN BE APPEALING AND BRING ABOUT SOME TERRIBLE CONSEQUENCES.

• Sin can be forgiven – even if it is like what David did (we see this from Ps. 51). However….
• The price (consequence of sin) may bring about some very serious consequences —
• David’s bad choices – SLIDE
• After David sinned with Bathsheba, he didn’t feel a little guilt; felt dirty.
  1. Sin – and especially the type of sin being looked at today needs a “deep cleansing.”
  2. David asked for God to wash him THOROUGHLY –
• This man had committed sin; his “iniquity” stayed with him on a regular basis – SLIDE
• David said his sin was EVER BEFORE
• If David were asked: Was it all worth it, he would surely say:  NO – ABSOLUTELY NOT.
• Sin – especially like what David did – is not a “mistake” or “an error in judgment” – SLIDE
• Don’t expect to sin against God and somehow walk away from the matter – SLIDE
• Men can behave in such a way where God withdraws His presence from them – SLIDE
• Because of what he did, David said God “broke his bones.”
• Sin offers some attractive but very deceptive paths.
• Sin destroys in this life as well as eternity.
  David had to learn the hard way. In our time, we must also make choices about God and sin.

• David let the devil win some battles but he refused to let Satan win the war. What about us?
• Which side are we on? Will we let the devil claim us as one of His people or not?

b) A menudo el pecado para nosotros también es un proceso gradual.
c) ¿Supongamos que David haya sido desafiado por alguien en este punto con respecto a sus acciones?

EL PECADO PUEDE APELAR Y TRAER ALGUNAS TERRIBLES CONSECUENCIAS. DIAPOSITIVA
1) El pecado puede ser perdonado, incluso si es como lo que hizo David (vemos esto en el Sal. 51). Sin embargo….
2) El precio (consecuencia del pecado) puede traer algunas consecuencias muy graves –

4) Después de que David pecó con Betsabé, no sintió un poco de culpa; Me sentí sucio.
a) El pecado, y especialmente el tipo de pecado que se mira hoy, necesita una “limpieza profunda”.
b) David le pidió a Dios que lo lavara BIEN –
5) Este hombre había cometido pecado; su “iniquidad” se quedó con él regularmente – DIAPOSITIVA
6) David dijo que su pecado ANTES estaba delante de él.

David tuvo que aprender de la manera difícil. En nuestro tiempo, también debemos tomar decisiones sobre Dios y el pecado.
