1)    Lk. 5:18-19
2)    Mk. 2:2 says Jesus was in a room that was packed with people.
3)    There was even a crowd around the doorway.
4)    Mark also tells us (2:2) how the paralyzed man had 4 people who were willing to assist him.
5)    Lk. 5:20 is one of the most striking verses in the life of Jesus – READ
6)    Luke said these “faith” of these men could be “seen.”
7)    This verse shows that faith is active; true faith is not faith alone.
8)    Jesus looked at this man and said his “sins” were forgiven.  This was GREAT news!
9)    The sick man died before Jesus went to the cross; Jesus’ death brought about a new covenant.
10)    This man was doubly blessed.  In addition to being forgiven of his sins, notice verses 24-25 – READ
11)    Verse 26 says the people who witnessed this event spoke of how they had seen some “strange things.”

LET’S RELATE WHAT WE HAVE HEARD TO OUR LIVES.

a)    One of the first things this story tells us is that physical sickness existed in Jesus’ day and time.
b)    In fact, Matthew-John show how Jesus was often in the presence of sick people.
2)    Today man still struggles with various types of illness.  Our worst problem is sin.
3)    The Bible says “all” have sinned and not one is righteous (Rom. 3:10, 23).
4)    In Jn. 6:37 the Lord said He will not “cast out” any who come to Him.

THE MAN IN LUKE 5 NEEDED SOME HELP TO GET TO THE LORD.

2)    There are people who will not find forgiveness of sins unless we step in and aid them.
3)    Lk. 5 reminds us that people are sick and they need our help, so we do our best to aid them.

THERE WERE SOME HINDRANCES IN GETTING TO JESUS

1)    These men could have given up because of the difficulties.
2)    The men described by God knew someone needed help, and they refused to quit.
3)    This needs to be our spirit as we live the Christian life.
4)    We do our best to help unsaved people see they are sick.
5)    We are going to try some things that may fail.
6)    We may find that we get some type of interference from others.
7)    False religious doctrines may complicate some of our efforts.
8)    Whatever the obstacles, we need to press on and try to help people see their need to obey the gospel.
9)    We also need to remember that we are working for God and He is very aware of our efforts.

AS WE SEEK TO TEACH WE ARE GOING TO SURELY FACE SOME CRITICISM.

1)    Notice verse 21 – READ
2)    Verse 27 tells us the Lord said to this man “follow me.”
3)    Are we following Christ?
4)    Are we side by side with Him, or are we trying to hang back a few paces?
