A sermon on the word one

1)    Gen. 1:1.
2)     “In the beginning” Gen. 1 says “God” created some things.
3)    In the beginning God created the “heavens and the earth.”
a)    Notice that “heavens” is plural but “earth” is singular.
b)    There is only one earth.

WHEN THE BIBLE USES THE WORD “EARTH” (SINGULAR) IN GENESIS 1:1, IT IMPLIES THAT THERE IS NO OTHER PLANET THAT HAS A “HIGHER FORM OF LIFE.”  WHEN TIME ENDS THERE WILL BE NO LITTLE GREEN MEN THAT ARE TAKEN TO HEAVEN OR SENT TO HELL.

1)    Leaving Gen. 1 we move forward to the flood.
2)    How many arks did God have to preserve man and the animals?  There was only one.
3)     After the earth was cleansed we are introduced to a man named Abraham.
4)    When we leave the book of Genesis we find more “ones” in the book of Exodus.
5)    God chose only “one nation” to be His special people – this was Israel.
6)    God raised up “one man” to lead this nation out of Egyptian bondage – Moses.
7)    When it was time to cross the Red Sea, there was only one means of deliverance—go through the sea.
8)    God divided the nation of Israel into tribes and there was only “one tribe” for priests.

THROUGHOUT THE OLD TESTAMENT WE REPEATEDLY FIND AN EMPHASIS ON THE WORD “ONE.”  IN THE NEW TESTAMENT THE EMPHASIS ON “ONE” IS CONTINUED.

a)    Jn. 1:18 refers to the “only begotten Son.”
b)    There is only “one” Son of God.
When new drugs come on to the market, they are very purchase generic levitra effective too. These tabs ought tadalafil canada mastercard to be taken around 15 to 20 prior minute’s sexual action. 2)    1 Cor. 3:11– READ
3)    We can build on the one foundation – verse 12 – but we cannot replace or change it.
4)    After saying that Jesus is the one foundation, Paul gave a description of Christ’s one church.
a)    Notice verse 17 in this same chapter – READ
5)    The oneness of Jesus’ church or temple is also found in the final book of the Bible — Rev. 21:2.
6)    As men are entitled to only one wife, so Jesus has only one “bride” (church).
7)    It is for this reason that we read about the “kingdom” instead of “kingdoms” (plural) in the NT.
a)    1 Pet. 2:9 – READ
b)    The saved are an “elect race” – singular.
8)    Peter also spoke about a “royal priesthood” – singular.
9)    This “one nation” is parallel to the word “house” in 1 Pet. 2:5.
10)    God has only “one house.”
11)    Throughout time God has put a great deal of emphasis on the word “one.”
12)    The world does not like the word “one” when it comes to Christianity because it seems so narrow.
13)    Jesus Himself said “narrow is the way to life” and “few find it.”
14)    If we want to be a Christian, we need to be committed to the word “one.”  Are we?
