The Lord’s church is not a part of the National Association of Evangelicals. It is a conglomeration of more than 40 Protestant bodies that spread confusion and strife. Christ’s church cannot be a part of a group that doesn’t know what to do to be saved and teaches conflicting doctrines. They disagree among themselves and often, they disagree with the Bible.
Most recently, the NAE has joined forces with the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy. What does the NCPTUP have to do with the NAE? The National Campaign promotes the use of contraceptives by the unmarried. They want denominations who are partners in the NAE to encourage contraceptive use by their unmarried singles.
According to a report in World (July 14, 2012, pages 9-11), the NAE President, Leith Anderson, cited a NAE board resolution from 2010: “The Church is understandably reluctant to recommend contraception for unmarried sexual partners, given that it cannot condone extramarital sex. However, it is even more tragic when unmarried individuals compound one sin by conceiving and then destroying the precious gift of life.”
Is it “more tragic” to implicitly encourage premarital relations? Who is Anderson to make that judgment? How can man say that abortion is worse than premarital sexual relations? Where is that written? The Bible does teach, implicitly, that life begins at conception and abortion is wrong. But it is explicit that premarital sexual relations are sinful.
“Flee fornication,” Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:18. “Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.” He writes later, “For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication” (1 Thessalonians 4:3).

An additional problem is brought up by Marvin Olasky, World’s Editor in Chief in a column of the same issue (pg. 88). “Does God put us in a box where the only way to avoid one sin is to commit or condone another?” The apostle Paul would answer with a resolute: NO! (1 Corinthians 10:13).
What churches ought to do rather than promote the use of contraceptives is to promote the Bible! More than the “Bible-soaked wisdom of their elders” (Olasky’s words), young people need the Bible itself! Bible classes need to be Bible classes. Children need to be taught the Bible. Teens need to be taught the Bible. We won’t get unmarrieds straightened out until we get their hearts straightened out and only God can do that.
One last thought. All marriages need to do a better job of being Christian marriages. Aside from biblical teaching, the best offense against divorce, homosexuality, premarital relations and “shacking up” is for Christians to show the beauty and strength of marriages that are done God’s way.
