A sermon on the coming judgment day

A coming judgment day 11/4/12

1)    This day is spoken of fairly often in the New Testament, but it is also expressed in the Old Testament.
2)    In Ps. 96 we are told that God is more than capable of judging the entire earth.
3)    In Ps. 96:13 the Bible says God “shall judge the earth.”
4)    When God judges the earth, He will use “righteousness” as the standard.
5)    What is God’s righteousness?  Ps. 96:13 declares this righteousness is God’s “truth” (word).
6)    All too often people treat the Bible like a gym membership.
7)    Many like the idea of belonging to a gym, but they do not use the membership.
8)    We will see a huge amount of emphasis on Jesus as a baby through the end of this year.
9)    When January comes, what then?
JOHN 5:22 TELLS US THAT JESUS IS THE MEMBER OF THE GODHEAD THAT WILL JUDGE PEOPLE.

a)    The Jesus people meet on the Day of Judgment will not be like a child in a manger.

2)    The Lord’s appearance will terrorize those who are not His people.
a)    When the Lord returns, no one is going to escape – Ps. 96:13 – God is the judge of the entire earth.

9)    In Mt. 24:44 Jesus said, “Be ready.”
10)     Jesus concluded this teaching (Mt. 25:13) with the word “watch.”
11)    Mt. 25:46 – READ
12)    The world “eternal” means “without end.”
13)    Mt. 25:46 says these people will be sent to a place of “eternal punishment.”
14)    A day of sentencing is coming. Each one of us in this room will be there.
15)    Each one of us will be judged by God’s word.
16)    God Himself will determine if we used His word to become a Christian.
17)    He will use His word to determine if we followed His will when it comes to worship.
18)    He will evaluate whether we followed His word when it comes to Christian living.
19)    If the Lord were to return today in flaming fire, what would He say about us?
