Wind  Sermon

Scripture reading from the first chapter of Ecclesiastes.

Two times in Eccl. 1:14-17 Solomon spoke of “striving after the wind.”

If life is nothing more than life, is it not ultimately not striving after the wind?

We can work, slave, save, and obey, but where is the meaning and purpose of life?

God says we “came from dust” and we “return to dust” (Gen. 3:19).

Eccl. 5:16 speaks about “laboring for the wind.”

If there is no God and no hope of an afterlife, our lives are meaningless and hopeless.

Proverbs (11:29) we have another “wind” reference.

In this passages we also have the word “inheritance.”  READ

It is possible to “inherit the wind” (nothing).  We may “inherit the wind” physically and spiritually.

In Isa. 26:18 we have the image of a pregnant woman.

Imagine a woman who goes through 9 months of difficulty.

Imagine laboring in this life for 20, 50, 75 years and in the end nothing matters and we get ZERO!

A different illustration by very similar in meaning passage comes from Job 15:2.

In Jer. 5:13 God’s prophets were compared to wind.

Wind is used to warn us about making the wrong choices in life.

Don’t “strive after what is like the wind.”

Don’t treat the message of God as if it is nothing like hot air (Job 5:13).

• In Isa. 26:19 the text says, “the dead shall live.”
• In Job 27:19 we are given an image of a man who is “rich.”
  1. Job said a man can go to bed and he has a lot of money.
  2. When morning comes, this rich fellow may be in a very different position.
• Wind is pictured as a cruel enemy – a force of destruction which can destroy the strongest of people.
• Regardless of what we may achieve in this life, it can all be swept away.
  1. 64:6 uses “wind” to describe sin.
  2. The prophet Isaiah said “sin sweeps us away like the wind.”

GOD USES “WIND” TO TELL US TO GET OUR ACT TOGETHER IN THE SPIRITUAL REALM.

• In about a dozen places (mainly in the OT) we read about the “four winds.”
• What does God mean when He employs the imagery of FOUR WINDS?
• This question has a two part answer.
  1. Sometimes “four winds” describes punishment.
  2. In Jer. 49:36 God said He would bring the “four winds” upon Elam for judgment.
• If we build our life on a solid foundation, the “four wind” imagery should be of great comfort to us.

• The image of “four winds” is used to say God knows who the saved are.

• Life is like the wind; we are being swept along and soon we are gone.

Viento

Imagínese trabajando en esta vida por 20, 50, 75 años y al final nada importa y nos ponemos CERO!
Una ilustración diferente por muy similar en sentido de pasaje viene de Job 15: 2.
En Jer. 5:13 Los profetas de Dios fueron comparados con el viento.
