Dictators think only of themselves and oppress those who do not feed their egos. However, God is love and his love is infinite (1 John 4:8; Lamentations 3:22). He is no despot (1 John 5:3). He knows and desires what is best for us. All humans throughout history, even atheists, have had a need to worship something. God knows that he is the only one who is truly able to fulfill the need.
