If we were to be accurate, perhaps we should say the plan of salvation begins with “Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord.” Then, hear the word of God, believe it, repent of your sins, confess your faith in Christ, and be immersed for the purpose of forgiveness of sins.
The word “humble” is found 80 times in the ESV. That’s more than once per book. “Humility” – 9 times. “Pride?” Fifty-two times. There will be multitudes in hell because they refused to humble themselves under the mighty hand of God.

The evidence that man was created is overwhelming. The evidence that we were created by a loving, omnipotent, omniscient Being is overwhelming. When you can look at a Bible verse and say (or think) – “That should not be in there,” you’ve got a problem with humility. When we can listen to a preacher and point the finger at another person, we’ve got a problem with humility.
God gave Paul a special revelation of heaven to strengthen him for the road ahead. He tells us about it in 2 Corinthians 12. But just after He gave Paul the revelation, He also gave Paul a thorn in the flesh – to keep him humble. My mom use to say, “When you point a finger at someone else you’ve got three pointing back at yourself.” There is a lot of truth in the adage.
May we always be open to God and His word, further teaching and instruction, rebuke and correction when needed. Salvation begins with humility.
