LET’S STUDY THE BOOK OF ACTS, IN VERSE ORDER, TO GLEAN SOME BIBLE FACTS ABOUT BAPTISM.

1)    Acts 19:5 –– READ
a)    WHEN.  HEARD.  BAPTIZED.
2)    Baptism is for those who are able to “hear” the teaching about God and His word.
a)    The “infant baptism” first done in 325 A.D. was contrary to New Testament teaching.
b)    The idea that baptism should be done on a “special holiday” is disproven by Acts 19:5.
c)    This verse says WHEN people HEARD they were BAPTIZED.
d)    There was no waiting for a “special day” or “special time” and this fact is important.
3)    We also see from Acts 19:5 that baptism is for those who can “hear” (understand) the gospel.
4)    Infants cannot understand the Christian faith, so they are not proper subjects for baptism.
5)    When a person can grasp what baptism for, then they need to be baptized.
6)    The people who were baptized were baptized “into the name” (“in,” KJV) of Jesus.
7)    In verse 4 we read about a baptism associated with someone else – “John” (John the Baptist).
8)    The baptism associated with John the Baptist was a bit like an expireed coupon.

LET’S BACK UP A CHAPTER.

1)    Let’s turn back to Acts 18:8 –  READ
2)    These three words are “hearing, believed, baptized.”

b)    Acts 16:31 is the “sugar stick” for religious groups that believe in “faith only” salvation.
2)    Verse 32 – READ
a)    Underline “believe” in verse 31 and then drawn a line or underline “AND” in 32.
3)    This conversion account agrees with what we have already seen from previous texts.
a)    Back in Acts 19 we saw 3 key words:  WHEN, HEARD, BAPTIZED.
b)    Is this not what we also have here in Acts 16?
c)    This man needed to “believe.”  WHEN he HEARD he was BAPTIZED – verse 33.
d)    After this man had heard and believed, he was baptized.
