How the 27 New Testament books describe Jesus

NICEAN CREED – 325 A.D. – DESIGNED TO DESCRIBE WHO JESUS IS AND HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE FATHER.

1)    We are going to see who Jesus is and how He relates to the Father by looking at every book in the NT.
a)    Jesus is described as the “King of the Jews” (Mt. 2:2).
b)    Mt. 27:37 – “THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.”
2)    As KING, Jesus has a kingdom.  Rev. 5:10 says those who belong to Christ reign with Him on the earth.
3)    In addition to Jesus being a KING, He is also a SERVANT.
4)    Mark 10:45 says:  For the Son of man also came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
5)    Jesus was and continues to be perfect in every way – Lk. 2:52.
6)    Perfection  points to a divine nature – Jn. 1:1-3 – READ
1)    In the book of Acts we see Jesus as the “ascended Lord.”
2)    Rom. 10:4 – READ  – Jesus is the One who brought a brand new system of religion.
3)    He is also the One who will raise all people from the dead (1 Cor. 15).
4)    He is the “God of all comfort” (2 Cor. 1:3).
5)    Gal. 3:13 – Paul spoke about the “curse of the law.”
a)    Jesus freed us from the Mosaic system of religion.  We can now live lives that are pleasing to God.
b)    We can have full and perfect forgiveness.
6)    In the book of Ephesians the church is described as a “body” and Paul said Jesus has one body.
a)    The head/body image in Ephesians tells us Jesus Christ cares about His people.
b)    The Lord keeps the saved so close the Bible pictures them as being “His body” and He is their “head.”

12)    2 Tim. 4:8 – He is the one who can provide a “crown of righteousness.”
13)    He is “the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (Tit. 2:13).
14)    He is so great Paul said (Philemon 1) people are willing to be His “prisoners.”
15)    Heb. 1:2 says Jesus is the “heir of all things.”
16)    Jas. 1:12 – Jesus is a “great promiser.”
17)    Peter (1 Pet. 2:21) tells us the Lord is our “example.”
18)    2 Pet. 1:11 is our next text and here Peter speaks about Jesus and His “eternal kingdom.”
19)    John, in the book of First John (2:1), describes Jesus as man’s “advocate.”
20)    As the “Son of the Father” (2 Jn. 3) He has all the credentials to help His people throughout life.
21)    Jude (verses 24-25) presents the Lord as someone who helps keep His people from stumbling.
22)    The Lord will not fail those who truly seek Him because He is the “alpha and the Omega” in Rev.
23)    He is the “beginning and the end.”
24)    Are we committed to truly serving the Son of God?
25)    Do we realize that creeds are insufficient for those who truly want to serve God?
