When and where was the worst school killing? Sandy Hook Elementary in New Town, CT in December of 2012 when 20 children and 6 adults were fatally shot? Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA in April 2007 when 32 people were killed by Seung-Hui Cho and 15 others were wounded? Columbine High School in Littleton, CO when 12 students were killed with a teacher in April 1999?

How about Bath Michigan Consolidated School – May 18, 1927. A disgruntled former school board member named Andrew Kehoe was upset over property tax issues and the pending foreclosure of some property. He rigged some explosives and killed 45 students, mainly between the ages of 7 and 12 years old. He wounded 58 more (recounted in Evil Invades Sanctuary by Carl Chinn).
Granted, you would have to have been born prior to 1927 to even remember that particular event. Yet, you could not find it reported in any major history book. Have we forgotten, as a nation?

It is no surprise that God set aside a day – the first day of every week – for His children to commemorate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. We too quickly forget. We get caught up in the day-to-day living that even important events can be set aside or, worse, brushed aside.
Sunday is Jesus’ Day. It is the “Lord’s” Day (Revelation 1:10). It is on this day that God calls together His assembly to observe the Memorial to the Lord (1 Corinthians 11:17ff). While the Lord’s Supper is not the “most important” act of worship, it is the act that brings us together particularly on Sunday. The Lord’s Supper on the Lord’s Day. Knowing that the whole assembly would be present on the Lord’s Day for the Lord’s Supper, Paul told the churches to which he preached to give as they had prospered during the week (1 Corinthians 16:2).
Man too quickly forgets. We are short-sighted creatures. We need constant reminding of what is important and what is not important. So, when the Lord’s Day comes up in two days, don’t forsake that assembly as so many have the habit of doing (Hebrews 10:25). Be there. Assemble. Be the church. Honor the Lord for His sacrifice. Then live your life as a sacrifice for Him (Romans 12:2).
