The Holy Spirit
WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT? WHAT DOES HE DO? WHAT DOES HE NOT DO? HOW IS HIS WORK DIFFERENT FROM THAT OF THE FATHER AND THE SON?
1) In Ps. 139:7 – where can man go to get away “from God’s spirit”?
2) If a man goes “up” (Ps. 139:8), he cannot escape from the spirit of God.
3) If a man goes “down” to “Sheol” (we die, Ps. 139:8), he cannot escape from the Spirit of God.
4) If a man goes to the remotest parts of the sea (Ps. 139:9), he cannot escape the Spirit of God.
a) How much does the Spirit know?
b) 1n 1 Cor. 2:10-11 Paul said the Spirit searches “all” things.
c) Heb. 9:14 – the Spirit is “eternal.”
d) Acts 5:3, 4
e) In Mt. 28:19 the Lord put the Holy Spirit on the same level as the Father as well as Himself.
f) Paul described the Holy Spirit as being the Spirit of God in 1 Cor. 3:16.
g) In Rom. 8:9 we find a reference to the “Spirit of Christ.”
h) Jn. 16:13 – the “Spirit of truth.”
i) Spirit “of grace” (Heb. 10:29).
j) 1 Pet. 4:14 – “Spirit of glory.”
k) Rom. 8:2 – “Spirit of life.”
l) “Spirit of adoption” (Rom. 8:15) & the “Spirit of holiness” (Rom. 1:4).
BIBLE IS FULL OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT!
a) Gen. 1:2 – the Spirit “moved on the face of the waters.”
b) Verses like 2 Sam. 23:2 – the “Spirit of God” guided men.
c) Jn. 16:13 – the Holy Spirit was to guide the apostles into “all the truth.”
2) Moses (Num. 11:17).
3) Joshua – Num. 27:18 – “Spirit” was also on this man.
4) Samson – Judg. 14:6 – “The Spirit of Jehovah came MIGHTILY upon him.”
5) Saul, David, Elijah, Elisha.
a) After the Lord was baptized the Spirit “descended as a dove” upon Him (Mt. 3:16).
b) The Spirit “led” Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil (Mt. 4:1).
6) The Holy Spirit had some part in raising up Jesus from the dead (Rom. 8:11).
7) Acts 2:1-4
8) The Holy Spirit has a “will” (1 Cor. 12:11). Rom. 5:5; Eph. 4:30; Rom. 8:26.
9) Paul associated the Holy Spirit with “love” in Rom. 5:5.
TODAY:
1) Rom. 8:26; Eph. 6:17; 1 Thess. 2:13
2) Eph. 1:13 says the Holy Spirit “seals” those who become God’s people.

4) The Holy Spirit wants His word to work in our lives. Will we let Him do this?
