“I can’t because __________.” The first time the Bible says that God got angry was when one of his best servants offered excuses as to why he could not deepen his involvement in the work of God. With each excuse, God rejected Moses’ plea, answered it, and challenged Moses to, again, raise his commitment to God’s work.
But it was his last excuse that was the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back. The text reads: “Then the anger of the Lord burned against Moses…” (4:14). This is the first time the Bible describes God being angry. Abraham hopes God does not get angry in Genesis 18:30, 32 but no prior text mentions the anger of Jehovah God.
