THE BODY IS FOR THE LORD 1 Corinthians 6:12-20

Several years ago a five year old boy by the name of Emmit, from Kansas, swallowed a disc-shaped lithium battery. I am glad to say that Emmit is doing reasonably well today, but only after his 65 surgeries! Though he is doing pretty good, there is no telling what this boy will endure in the future. And it is hard to imagine what his family went through!

Listen to the words of the apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 6:13, “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food.” Oh, if little Emmit would have better understood that! God designed food for the stomach and He designed the stomach to receive food. They were designed for each other, but other things… they don’t go in tandem quite the same. God’s design is good. God’s design is simply amazing. But bad things happen when we leave the realm of God’s design. Such is the case with the discussion within our text.

The spiritual truth is taught at the end of verse 13 where Paul says, “The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.” In the spiritual realm, the body is for the Lord and Lord is for the body. Thus it is extremely problematic when a Christian uses his body in such a way that is in opposition to that for which God designed it. It is even more serious than swallowing a battery! Children: Never put a battery in your mouth. God’s children: Never veer outside of God’s design for the body!

Three times in this text Paul asks the Corinthians, “Do you not know…” (vv. 15, 16, 19). I don’t think that Paul is suggesting that the Corinthians were completely ignorant of the things he is referring to, but that they were forgetful and had been spiritually negligent and irresponsible in the way they used their bodies.

Previously the Corinthians had been very immoral, they partook of their own culture, but they had turned away from it and became Christians (see 6:9-11). But now Paul is warning them that they cannot go back to that kind of lifestyle. Their bodies are not to be used for filth, but for Christ!

Men can consume these capsules cheapest viagra generic two times every day with a glass of milk or plain water for 3 to 4 months. Always combine these medicines with regular exercises, stress controlling viagra store therapies and sex-boosting foods. Chamomile tea is viagra pills australia equally beneficial herb which can be very helpful in treating dry mouth naturally. One of the main reasons to aging is high levels buy viagra without prescriptions of the hormone testosterone. Our culture is very different than Corinth but perhaps similar in many ways. There is a pervasiveness of pornography, immodest dress, living together before marriage, and premarital as well as extra marital relationships. God certainly did not design the Christian for these kinds of things, or anyone else!

Instead we are “joined to the Lord” and become “one spirit with him” (v. 17). The man and woman of God must, “Flee from sexual immorality” (v. 18), even as Joseph did if need be! (see Gen 39:12). Likewise, Christians should know themselves and thus, “make no provision for the flesh” (Rom. 13:14). If we play with fire we will inevitably be burnt!

Instead of using our body for depraved purposes, let’s remember that our body “is a temple of the Holy Spirit” (v. 19). Remember that we are not our own, but were “bought with a price” (v. 20).

“So, glorify God in your body” (v. 20). That is the purpose for which the body was made!
