THIS MORNING WE WANT TO LOOK AT EACH OF THESE QUESTIONS FROM FIRST CORINTHIANS 1:13. THE FIRST QUESTION DEALS WITH THE SUBJECT OF “DIVISION.”

4) Virtually everything associated with Christianity has more than one point of view.
a) The thousands of different viewpoints can only lead us to one of two conclusions.
b) God may be a God of confusion and perhaps He is incompetent.
c) The second option for us to consider is that man is the one who has created religious confusion.
5) Of these two views the Bible says the second one is the right answer.

7) Is God a “God of confusion” or is He a God of order?
8) This verse is in perfect agreement with what we read in 1 Cor. 1:13.
9) Paul said to the Corinthians, “Is Christ divided”? The implied answer to this question is “no.”
a) If people who claim to be Christians divide up into various groups and do different things, this is confusing.
b) 1 Cor. 14:33 says God is not in the business of confusing people.
c) 1 Cor. 1:13 affirms that Jesus and by implication His people are not “divided.”
10) Jesus prayed for “unity” – Jn. 17:21 says “that they may all be one.”
11) The previous verse – Jn. 17:20 – refers to the “word.”
ONE WOULD THINK THAT PEOPLE WOULD BE WISE ENOUGH TO NOT TRY TO CHANGE GOD’S PLAN, BUT MAN, THROUGHOUT THE AGES, HAS OFTEN THOUGHT HE COULD IMPROVE ON THE WILL OF GOD.

b) Paul asked these Christians to think back to the time of their conversion.
2) Whose “name” had they been baptized into?
3) Had they been immersed into the name of Paul?
4) 1 Cor. 6:11 says these people had been “washed” and their salvation was “in the name of Jesus.”
5) Today some say the “names” of things do not matter when it comes to spiritual matters.
6) People think if they just deviate a little bit God does not mind.
a) 1 Cor. 1:13 does not allow for these little deviations.
b) The Bible portrays itself as a “seed” (Lk. 8:11; the “seed is the word of God”).
c) The name of Jesus is the greatest name on earth.
7) Are we part of the Lord’s church?
