Most mammoth bones are not frozen. Most of them are decayed or stuck in permafrost. Many show signs that much time passed from the time they died until they were buried.
Some time before Abraham lived or perhaps around that time, the ocean surface temperatures cooled and evaporation slowed down. The climate became drier with more extreme weather conditions in different parts of the world. As the glaciers receded, the animals probably migrated closer to the oceans where the waters were still unfrozen.
When scientists have studied the deposits in which they have found the mammoth fossils, they have discovered that these deposits are wind-blown silt or wind-blown muck.
In the years after the ice age (as it was ending), strong winds would have characterized the “big chill” and animals would have been beaten by these strong winds, drying animals out. The strong winds would have also carried large amounts of silt and sand.
These “dust storms” at the end of the ice age would have been immense – like our own Dust Bowl in the U. S., except much larger. These dust storms could have covered the woolly mammoths and mastodons and suffocated them and dried them out. The animals would have been buried alive quickly, even in a standing position, with dust flying all around them. In Siberia, the permafrost would have moved upward from the silt on the ground until it covered the entire carcass. This is what the evidence suggests.

2. God is powerful. This world has gone through a lot of changes – profound changes – since Adam and Eve were created and walked the earth. God brought many of those changes into existence when He destroyed the world because of sin. So, whenever we see mountain formations or the Grand Canyon or Mammoth Cave, we ought to be reminded that God destroyed the world once with a massive flood and He promises that He will destroy the earth again, this time with fire (2 Peter 3:10-13).
3. Jesus came to save us from this second world-wide catastrophe. Let us be prepared.
