Do you remember learning about electrical circuits in school? An open circuit is a circuit without a complete connection between the two sides of the power source. Thus, electrical current cannot flow through the circuit, and the energy available cannot be used. A closed circuit, however, does have a complete connection, and the energy is used to light a room, cook food, or wash clothes.
Our relationship with God works in much the same way. If the complete connection is not made, we cannot use the spiritual energy available to us through our power source – the Bible.
So, how do we make the complete connection? God has already made the first move. 2 Timothy 3:16 says that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (NKJV).” All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. That means that the Bible is God’s, His holy words to the people of the world.

Philippians 4:6-7: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Prayer is how we talk to God, and God will always listen (Luke 11:9-10).
God went half way by giving us the Bible. But just reading (or just praying) doesn’t close the circuit. We have to do both to make the complete connection, to have a “close-circuited” relationship with God. Use the energy available through Bible study and prayer, and you will light the world.
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12).
